Karl Priebe Original Vintage Painting "Girl with Ferret & Flowers"
Karl Preibe is a Milwaukee, WI born artist. He was one of the few Wisconsin artists of his generation to escape the regionalist label and win showings in prestigious galleries, like those in New York City. He was the only Milwaukeean ever to receive the Prix de Rome, an honor accorded to him in 1941. Because of wartime condition he was unable to use the grant to study in Europe. Throughout his creative life Priebe was known for his love of black culture. He was a longtime friend of such jazz greats as Billie Holiday, Pearl Baily and Dizzy Gillespie.
His work is highly sought after, and this stunning piece is an original 13" x 16" painting of a woman with a ferret on her shoulder, holding flowers It is framed in a 16" x 19" frame, with a UV protected acrylite glass. It was painted in 1942, and is labeled "For Bob & Pat 5/25/42" with his signature "Priebe, 3/42".
