This gorgeous pair Mexican sterling silver cornflower & bow motif screw-back earrings are a classic Margot de Taxco design, highlighting the creativity and quality of her spectacular midcentury jewelry designs.
Margot van Voorhies Carr, known as "Margot de Taxco," was a visionary designer who shaped Mexican jewelry in the mid-twentieth century. On a chance vacation in Mexico, she met Antonio Castillo, who introduced her to Taxco and the jewelry & artistic community. She relocated to the area and married Castillo. Antonio established Los Castillo in 1939 alongside along with his family and Margot, and she became the principal creative force behind their celebrated designs.Following her 1948 departure, Margot founded her eponymous studio, where she meticulously designed and documented every piece her company produced. Though a devastating 1960 fire claimed her workshop and curtailed her business, her legacy endures as a testament to her uncompromising artistry and craftsmanship.
Marked on the back with “Margot de Taxco" logo on one earring, and a circle of "Sterling Made in Mexico" with the eagle hallmark denoting authentic Mexican sterling in the center. on the other.
