Artist Harold Altman (1924-2003) has been recognized by critics as one of the most influential American printmakers of the twentieth century. Altman was born in the Bronx in 1924 & was an American painter and printmaker best known for his linear etchings and vibrant color lithographs. His prints of Central Park, the parks of Paris, and rural Pennsylvania can be found in museums and private collections throughout the world.

While he is most known for his printmaking, he was a talented painter. During his short period living in Milwaukee from 1958-1959, he painted this beautiful, one of a kind oil painting. It is signed "Approaching Figures" and 1959 on the back of this work, and is signed "Altman 59" on the front. You can find various works from the "Approaching Figure" series in such museums as Whitney Museum of American Art, Brooklyn Museum, the National Gallery of Art and more.  This is an absolutely spectacular midcentury American artwork, and is custom framed for this piece. Altman's loose, gestural brushwork gives the figures in this painting an ethereal quality, while the colors maintain a soft, gentle atmosphere.

This painting measures approx. 36" x 41" x 2.5" deep, and is ready to become a focal point to any space where conversation-starting, thoughtful art would be appreciated.
