Vintage 1927 etching with aquatint "And Out Of The Night Came..." by Robert James Malone (1892 - 1966). Signed by the artist. Malone was a publisher and editor of five Suffolk County weekly newspapers and a former nationally syndicated caricaturist.

A caricaturist for the King Features syndicate in the nineteen-thirties, he had contributed earlier to The New York Times, The Baltimore Sun and The London Graphic, and to Cosmopolitan and Town & Country magazines. He founded The Smithtown News, in 1945 and The Commack News in 1955; later he acquired The Mid Island News, The Islip News and The Northport Observer. In 1925 the Corcoran Gallery in Washington broke its tradition of exhibiting only serious works of art and showed a collection of Mr. Malone's cartoons.

The text in the artwork reads "And out the night came a silver bird carrying a boy who carried letters of introduction to Paris". The artwork is a depiction of a monumental moment in aviation history - the first solo transatlantic flight successfully completed in 1927 by Charles Lindbergh. A pocket added to the back of the frame includes newspaper clippings about Charles Lindbergh and the momentous event.

Measures 9" x 11", framed to 16" x 19" in black with museum glass by The P.H. Bresler Co. Fine Arts in Milwaukee.
